Exeter Charge Book 1848:
John Vanstone, corn factor of Exeter, was charged with assault on PC17 George Guppy, and was fined 5 shillings plus costs.

Quarter Sessions:
Easter 1829: among prisoners remaining in detention from a previous session, was John Vanstone, serving 6 months for offences against the game laws (poaching).

1851: Detailed notes of the trial of James Vanstone, of St.Thomas, sentenced to 10 years for a horticultural swindle, can be found at:
