Here are links to histories that give more personal accounts of branches of the family than straightforward genealogical records provide.

Here is another story of interest: the obituary of Canon Bill Vanstone, published in the Independant in 1999.

The history of William Charles Vanstone, a 'Winkleigh hero," He was the grandson of Samuel Vanstone and Amy Westaway, shown in Tree 1.

An undated article and photograph from the Bible Christian Magazine on William Vanstone, who moved to London from North Petherwin (possibly William Vanstone b. 1855 son of James Vanstone and Jane Marshall)

Article from ‘Memorable Manitobans’ on Charles Morley Vanstone (1870-1953)

A detailed account of the trial of James Vanstone, nurseryman. The census shows him as born in Shebbear in c. 1803. He may have been the James Vanstone, b.1795 in Sheepwash, to Samuel and Mary. See also Other Records

Now, this link will not be found in any Vanstone tree, but I am including it anyway: No Name, a novel about illegitimacy by Wilkie Collins, first published in 1862 in Charles Dickens' "All the Year Round," and featuring a fictional branch of the Vanstone family, living in Somersetshire. Three illustrated extracts, published in Harper's Weekly in the middle of the American Civil War, can be seen here.
